Special 26 is entertaining movie. It is a story about 4 guys who pretend to be from the CBI and raid politicians and businessmen who cannot complain since whats been stolen is black money. The movie is based on a true story when such a raid had been pulled off at TBZ at Opera House by a gang. The movie is fast paced and intelligent in its approach. No glitches or bloopers.
The only painful part is the romance between Akshay and Kajal which is superfluous, superficial and just takes away from the real fun. Why film makers feel the driving urge to not stray from the formula even when they are doing so well with the material they have, beats me. Anupam Kher and Akshay Kumar are in top form. No tom foolery,no crazy expressions, just a belief in the role they are playing as thieves and as CBI guys. They look focused and that ups the drama to a great degree. The other two members of the team don't have too many dialogues or stuff to do independently but are great supports. Jimmy Shergill and Manoj Bajpai as the cops are also cool, specially Manoj Bajpai whose intense eyes I would be scared to look into if I was a criminal. Enough said. Special 26 is total fun. The script is taut, the jokes work, the larger comedy is superb and the actors come through. Go for it!
